The smackdown was a great success again this year. After pulling into town about 1am on Saturday morning, getting the boat in the water and making room in the cabin for a place to sleep, we got to bed about 2am. Early to rise shortly after 5am and getting ready to whack some walleye. We headed off to the promise land about 630. After some trolling around we finally found some fish around Sputnick. By then the HOT bite was waning, but we picked away and finished up with 23 walleye in the box. Satruday finished up with a great cookout and festivities and watching the wings KILL the penquins in game 5. Up early again Sunday, but delayed any fishing due to lightning. After breakfast and some organizing, we headed out for a couple hours and stayed in MI water looking for some closer fish, to no avail. About 1:30 we picked up the afteroon charter and ran back to Sputnick. With some circling we narrowed them down and picked away again. Boxing 19 eyes and tossing several white bass and sheephead back. Back to port and heading home after loading the boat. Back to town about 1 am Monday. Overall, the walleye didn't cooperate quite as well as previous years, but fishing was still great. Anyone interested in walleye owes it to themselves to get to lake Erie.
