What can I expect on my charter trip? PDF

Fam,ily GatheringPick a date first.  We focus on fishing Muskegon, but tournaments or special requests can bring us to other ports.

Then select the amount of time you might want to be out.  Standard trip is 6 hours, but we can do whatever you like.

Then we will pick a departure time.  A 6 hour trip can depart in the morning or afternoon.  Longer trips can be tailored to your needs, but would typically depart in the morning to take advantage of the whole day.

Mid summer catch

The boat will leave the dock at that time after you and your crew is loaded aboard and you get comfortable.  We will then make the run to the prefered fishing grounds.  Run times can be as short as 10minutes depending on time of year, fish location, wind, waves and weather.  Typically in the springtime, fish are close to shore and move out as the season wears on.  Early summer can find fish many miles offshore and again mid to late summer fish migrate closer to shore to prepare for the annual spawning run.  After the spawn, fish can be caught in great numbers again offshore.  We fish until we reach a species limit or its time to head back to the dock.  We will be back to the dock in the amount of time you selected.  Times selected are dock to dock times, not fishing times.  I do forget to look at my clock on occasion but we wont worry about that.

If the weather on your trip turns sour, your captain will use his discretion on calling the trip.  We fish in rain, but not lightning, so bring your rain gear if its in the forecast.  High wind/waves will cause your captain to cancel the trip at his discretion.  The boat is fitted with a hardtop with full 4 way enclosures to protect your crew from the elements, but reeling in fish is done outside.  So be prepared!  Fishing in the rain can be well worth the effort!

Dad and the kids

After heading back to the dock, your captain will clean your fish and bag them for you. Skinless fillets are recommended for the best table fare.  At this time you can gather your gear and watch your fish get cleaned.  Your day is complete, but don't forget to book your next trip!

So put on a smile, grab your family or friends and come on aboard Salmonhead!
