South Haven Slows Down finally 7/8/06 |

Last minute trip to South Haven today. I was wondering how the day would go when we got all the lines in the water without a bite. Put out a 15 rod spread and hit the same water I have been catching them in. Within the first hour or so we took 4 kings from 4-7# and then nothing. Changed around some baits to match the conditions and picked away a bit and finished 5 for 7. First fish was on a 13 color leadcore with a Mixed Veggie glow Norhtport, then the middle port diver popped moments later. That was running a puprple passion (91) Northport on a mag diver set to 2 back 140. Shortly thereafter, the rigger went at 58 down with Blueberry glow (19), then not too long later the outside starboard diver went. That diver was pulling a Northport glow tiger roughy (65) set on 2 back 90. All those fish were kings. Some time elapsed then the 8 color pulling Belding Bait (92) fired to bring in a nice steelie. As the morning wore on, we had two fish hooked up on the 15 color but both proved worthy opponents and freed themselves. The spoon was a sour apple (29) Northport. I pulled several different flasher fly combos at different places in the spread with no luck as well as a Chrome J for quite some time. The pods of bait and hooks all over were gone today. Rumor has it the boys northward did pretty well today. Seems as though the fish migrated since yesterday. Time will tell with reports coming in after the weekend. Looks like the northbound fishery is finally going to heat up.
