I had an interesting trip Saturday morning. A good friend and teamate joined me along with a new defender of freedom. Mark Hogewind is a recently "winged" airman for the Navy and will be securing our freedom piloting a helicoptor aboard an aircraft carrier. Mark worked for me in his prior life and moved on with the Navy. I was able to get Mark and his lifelong friend out fishing and produced some action.
We finished 11 for 20 on the trip. Mark wrangled in the first fish being a nice 16# King. We all took turns the rest of the and had lots of excitement with a triple header at one point. The day was relaxing and exciting and I hope Mark enjoyed a day off aboard Salmonhead. We started fishing in the channel hoping some straglers from earlier in the week were still around but to no avail. We worked our way outside and zig zagged our way from the piers to 80 feet of water. After picking away "inside" and only having 2 our of 6 hits in the boat, we picked and ran out to 300 fow. After zig zagging from 300-350 we found some feeding fish. Horseflies and Northport Nailers did all the damage with only one plug bite all day. Hot colors inside were Atomic Green glow and Seamist flies and outside it was oranges and golds up high. |
