Fishing was good this weekend again. Lots of salmon
are in Muskegon lake and around the pier heads. The bite is fickle and can be HOT HOT or NOT NOT. The good news is there seems to be a pile of fish in deeper water that are willing to bite. Saturday I tried the waters off the pierheads looking for the big mature kings that are preparing to accend the river to spawn. The fish were not biting and at 7:30 am I had seen enough and pulled lines and ran to deeper water to the north. Fishing was slow for starters but mid day the bite picked up and we finished 7 for 9 with a nice mixed bag of mature kings, 2 laker trout, 1 brown trout and one steelhead. Flashers and Horseflies along with Northport Nailer spoons did the catching. No bites on plugs. Sunday after hearing of some decent fishing mid day in Muskegon lake, I set up in the lake and made two passes looking for Mr. Big. Luck frowned and I saw no fish caught and we didnt have a bite. Again, I trolled out the piers and into the big lake with no action and pulled lines and ran for open deep water. We set up in 80 feet north of port and starting catching fish before all the lines were back in the water. The crew was outstanding today and we finished 10 for 10 with 3 coho and the rest kings. I will be back on the water Tuesday and Wednesday this week |
