As has been the case for a long time, Labor Day weekend is reserved
for the family. This year, my family, my brother's family and two more families all met in Ludington for a weekend of relaxing and fishing. Saturday morning the guys hit the water and we fished a couple hours to take 9 fish south of port. Later Saturday afternoon some unforseen circumstances arose and my family packed up and headed back to Muskegon. Sunday was a recouperation day and Monday found my wife and me on the water alone in Muskegon. We fished the pier heads and pulled 3 nice kings in a few hours right in front. Monday evening found my 3 year old nephew and family on board for a first time fishing trip. Again we stayed close to port not wanting to push the limits of a 3 year old's attention span. We managed one nice king that Grant got to reel in with help from dad. Tuesday was a charter with a crew of 5 aboard. We tried the pier heads again and managed 3 for 5 on, all good fish. At 8 we pulled lines and ran to deeper water where we caught 7 more fish and lost several more to finish the day 10 landed of 15 bites. A good mixed bag of 6 big kings, 3 lake trout and 1 steelhead. Lake trout season is only open for 3 more weeks, so if you want lakers, now is the time. |
