Had a crew of 3 plus myself for an adventure to the mid lake reef on Saturday. The lake was ski-able if you are a water skier. We cleared the pier heads and set course for the reef 37 miles distant. About 5 miles prior to our chosen destination, we marked a bunch of bait on the graph and saw two different fish on the surface feeding. We marked the spot and kept going. We sat down just short of the shelf and started setting lines. The second rod in the water took a bite as we were attaching the planer board, but he got away. A few rods later, we took a fish on the 3 color with a 100 size nailer in Watermelon glow (62) and it turned out to be a nice coho of about 4#. We continued trolling and picked away at the fish for a couple hours, zig zagging on and off the reef. Mid morning we realized our rendevous with several other boats wasn't going to happen and the fishing was slower than expected, so we pulled lines and ran to where we marked the bait on the way out. We searched for a while and couldnt locate anything, so we set lines and pointed the boat for port. We trolled for a couple more hours and caught a few more fish. We finished 6 for 9 on the day with one small king, one steelie, 3 nice coho and one good lake trout that was promptly released due to being in the refuge. The run back was virtually as smooth as the run out which made for a wonderful day with great company on the boat.
