South Haven on 5/5: Had a great time! Smiles say it all. The previous evening I had a personal run with friends and located some fish south of port in 130 feet of water or so. We sat down on them Friday and they were still there. Weather was cloudy in the morning, then the sun popped out briefly then it clouded back up on us. We caught our 12 kings with 3 kicker fish to boot. Spoons were the go to baits for the day and color varied as the conditions changed. Lots of purple in the early morning then switched to blues as the day progressed. A few bright lures fired when the sun popped out. Northport nailers in the 300 size were the ticket with purple passion 91 and bluebberry glow 19 taking most of the hits. sour apple 29 and dragon fly 23 took fish as well. Early bite was all riggers and divers, then after 9 am it was all core. Fish were down 40-85 feet so deep cores from 13-21 color ruled the day. Divers were magnums on 1 and back 175 -180. Riggers were set 60-85 as well.
