6/4/09 Muskegon Salmon and trout fishing PDF
Muskegon continues to be strong.  Fishing in the 130-160 range we boxed out in less than 2 hours.  We boxed 10 fish and caught and released 3 more while trying to get rods out of the water.  Mashed Bannana (11), Dark Monkey Puke (22), Mirage fly, Orange Ice on gold (41G), Blueberry Muffin (45), lemon ice (43), Lemon Fire (76) all took fish in the top 55 fow.  Lakers 10-14#, Kings 4-11# and steelies 3-10# were on the menu.  Lots of bait in the channel and plenty in the 140-160 range also.

ran out with some buddies today and finshed 18 for 27.  Lots of steelhead landing 10, also 7 kings and 1 coho.  Several fish we lost were steelies also.  Most fish were high in the water column coming on 3,5,7,9 colors of lead and high divers set 50-80 back.  Bright colors ruled with prototype goldie hawn taking the cake, mashed bannana was good and also orange edge green edge.   Orange ice on gold took several as well.

Fished 170-270 and fish pretty much everywhere between.

Muskegon 5/23 and 5/24 Salmon and trout muskegon PDF

I had a mid day trip on Saturday fishing noon to 6pm.  Fishing was tougher for sure and the fish were in small pockets.  If you could find a pocket and stay on it, you would hammer out some fish.  We went 7 for 10, again with a mixed bag of kings, lakers and steelhead.  We found some fish north in 120-140 fow.  Baits were totally mixed with flies and spoons with greens doing the best for flies lik Seaweed and spoons were all over the board with Mashed bannana (11) taking top honors.

Sunday I had double trips.  Morning was a two person trip so we ran to where we left off the day before.  It was a desert.  We were 1 for 2 while setting lines then a long dry spell as I worked through the previous day's waypoints.  I headed south and finished the trip 3 for 5.  Again, mashed bannana took a couple bites as well as Seaweed horse fly.

The afternoon trip started well with 2 fish in the boat and two misses while setting lines.  Both steelhead on Mashed bannana.  The wind and waves were building at an exponential rate.  We found some bait in the 160 foot range and tried to work it over.  We managed to catch and release 4 undersized lakers, but the waves were preventing us from a good troll heading back north.  We decided to call the trip and re-shcedule.

Fishing remains good in Muskegon.  Finished 17 for 24 today with two throw backs and boxing 15.  We had a good mixed bag of 6 lakers, 8 kings and one steelie.  We tossed a small steelie and an undersized laker.  Not much consistantancy for the baits. Seaweed Horsefly took 4 bites, Seamist took one bite, Blue glow took 4 bites.  Spoons varied a lot.  The following all took bites.  Glow tiger perch (64), Bruiser (31), Key Lime (54), Blueberry muffin (45), Orange ice Gold (41G) as well as two greenish prototypes.

South Haven 5/10 Salmon and steelhead fishing PDF

After the big wind yesterday, I decided to sneak out this morning.  We had about 4 hours to fish and went 8 for 9.  Nice mixed bag.  2 coho,. 2 lakers and 4 kings in the boat and lost a nice steelie that never hooked up.  We found biting fish in the 60-65 foot range.  Water was stirred up a bit and had a green tint to it.  First couple bites were on Orange ice on gold (41G) and after that it was all green.  Greenberry glow (18) took 3 bites on the 250 copper, Superior sunset (35) took two bites on the 5 color, Wire diver took one on the Green Captain Gary's E chip with SeaWeed horsefly behind it, and natural born hornet took one on the rigger.  The 8 O'clock hour was good to us, but after that we struggled to find biters.  We finished up in 110 feet taking the final fish as we pulled lines to get home for mother's day.

The boat will get tranported to Muskegon for the rest of the summer mid week this week.

The South Haven tournament is this upcoming weekend and I am available to fish it.  I need to know by Wednesday 5/13 or the boat will get moved to Muskegon.

BEWARE, SEVERAL FULL SIZED TREES WITH ROOT BALLS ATTACHED FLOATING AROUND AT OR SLIGHTLY BELOW WATER LINE!
