Muskgon salmon and Trout action 9/11 - 9/13 PDF
Fished offshore Saturday 9/11.  Finishing 7 for 10 with a mixed bag with 4 species including kings, coho, steelhead and lake trout.  Large steep waves dictated fishing inside the piers and in Muskegon Lake for mature spawing fish on Sunday.  The bite was off and we landed one mature king and a Boone and Crocket sheephead.  Monday we again were offshore and landed 8 for 11 fish on again with a mixed bag of 4 species with everything except brown trout.  Offshore fishing continues to be steady and there are pockets of fish.  If the waves allow turning on the fish, you can beat on them pretty well.  There is lots of bait in the 180-190 range.  Plenty of steelhead in the mix, making for a fun catch.  Northport Nailer spoons in Greenberry glow, SeaBee, Salmonhead, Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Ice, blue puke, purple passion, pearl plugs, SeaWeed, Atomic green Glow and SeaMist horseflies all took fish anywhere from a 9 color leadcore to 450 copper, riggers 55 to 200 down and divers 130 to 300 back.  So the fish are scattered throughout lots of water column for sure.  If we ever get a couple stable days in a row, it could be a blood bath out there.

August 20-22 PDF

This past weekend the fish were biting, but bumpy lake conditions hampered the effort some.  Fish were found in relatively shallow water in the 80-130 range but the bite seemed to turn off quickly.  the bite from 130 to 170 lasted a bit longer and the bite in 240-300 seemed to be steady if you could stay on the fish.  With the cooler temps forcasted at night this week, it could be harbor patrol this weekend.  The big kings are getting ready to make the run up river very shortly here.  Some fish are already in the river.  The extrememly warm water has made catching them very tricky, if not impossibly, but the water is cooling.  Great trips ahead.

Our bites came on a mixed bag of Northport Nailer spoons and Horse Flies and plugs.   Plugs seemed to do best early morning and flies and spoons took over mid day.  A good mixed bag of fish are being caught offshore with Coho, Kings, Steelhead and Lake trout.
